The ENERGY STAR label was created to establish a uniform system to calculate and evaluate the energy efficiency of everything that actively or passively consumes energy. This certification informs the consumer about the cost for using certain products.
The majority of appliances, that consume energy to operate, pass through the ENERGY STAR certification microscope and do not always deserve to carry the small blue label. Nevertheless, this certification goes further. It also considers products that, although strictly speaking they do not consume energy, have an impact on daily energy consumption. This is so for doors, windows and… houses! Due to their passive efficiency, these elements can play a major role in view of high energy efficiency.
The ENERGY STAR label was developed in the United States in 1992 with the massive expansion of computers. Canada quickly followed on its heels and since then, the label has been adopted by several countries, in particular, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Since April 2004, Canadian ENERGY STAR certification criteria have been developed to label the glass doors and windows intended for our geographical location. In 2005, we found it useful to take entry doors and skylights into consideration. The ENERGY STAR seal is a respected label that is deserved.
Installing high-energy performance windows provides superior comfort that contributes to optimizing energy consumption – no more waste! Also, ENERGY STAR certified doors and windows filter the sun’s rays to reduce the effect on furniture, leather sofas, wooden blinds and window dressing materials. Windows that are well insulated and properly installed are not prone to condensation or mould; the frames will remain in good condition for a long time.
Increased comfort, furniture preservation and guaranteed durable windows are all part of the tangible savings associated with the ENERGY STAR label.
