Les fenêtres de demain

The new generations of windows have come a long way since the simple glass panes of the past. With the benefits of advanced technology, they have reversed their impact on the home. While we could lose about 25% of our heat through the doors and windows, we can now expect a much lower ratio.

Most of the new windows are made with double glass panes – some models come with triple glass panes for more efficiency – tempered glass is also available. The window frames can be made of wood, aluminum, PVC or a combination of these materials. All components provide insulation and their construction, as their assembly, provide a maximum reduction of heat transfer between the interior and exterior. There are two general types of new windows: operable or fixed. The operable windows are casement (crank), awning, sliding and double hung.

To maximize solar heat and reduce heat loss during the winter time, manufacturers have perfected a low emissivity glass (Low E). The low E glass is obtained by applying a metallic coating on the glass surface. The low E glass panes let the visible sunlight penetrate while blocking the radiant heat. To this is added the possibility of trapping inert gas (Argon or Krypton) between the two glass panes. This gas, which is heavier than air, has very slight reactions to variations in temperature and provides an additional thermal barrier. During the summer, the process is inverted and solar heat is reflected by the Low E glass, helping to keep your house cooler.

Today’s windows, when properly installed, are very efficient. To get maximum benefit from their potential, it is strongly recommended that they be installed by qualified professionals whose work is guaranteed.
